The annual election to fill board positions was also held at the meeting. There were two (2) vacancies, each with a three year term. If you are interested in running in the future, or if you wish to nominate another member, you must contact the Nominating Committee at the Credit Union by the Friday preceeding the annual meeting. Christmas Club Accounts
A Christmas Club account is a great way to make sure you'll have the money you need when the holidays arrive. If you don't have an account, open one now and start saving. The money in your account will accumulate throughout the year as it earns dividends. You can make deposits easily through payroll deduction, in person or by mail. Call us today to open an account or to increase the payroll deduction on your current account.
Checks for this year's accounts will be mailed the first week of November, or you can have the money deposited into your savings or checking account by calling the Credit Union before November 1st.
Online Banking is now available at GRAFCU! What this means is that you will be able to access your account via your home computer and be able to perform a number of transactions online. For example, you can view an account history, transfer funds from savings to checking or to loan accounts, and set up recurring transfers. If you have any questions one of our Member Service Representatives would be happy to assist!
Your Money Is Safe And Secure At Your Credit Union
We may not be able to lower the price of gas and groceries, but at GRAFCU, we will do everything we can to protect your money. You can rest assured your money is safe and secure at your Credit Union.
Your Money Is Insured
Funds on deposit at GRAFCU are protected by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). NCUA also operates and manages the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF). The NCUSIF is backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. Government. Your share insurance is similar to the insurance protection offered by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).
The NCUSIF provides all members of federally insured credit unions with $250,000 in coverage for their individual accounts. These accounts include regular shares, share (checking) drafts, money market accounts, and share certificates. There is increased coverage for retirement accounts. If you have a regular share account and an IRA at the credit union, the regular share account is insured up to $250,000 and the IRA is separately insured up to $250,000. The coverage on joint accounts is different in that a two person joint account has $500,000 in coverage. This coverage is separate from and in addition to the coverage available for other accounts such as individual and retirement accounts.
Credit Unions Are Very Safe
According to Credit Union Newswatch, Dan Mica, Credit Union National Association president/CEO, recently reminded Congress that America's credit unions "remain healthy, vibrant, and well capitalized."
"I am proud to report that America's credit unions remain the safest of all depository institutions," said Mica. "Credit Unions have weathered every financial storm since the Great Depression without ever costing the American taxpayer a dime in any bailout."
Mica says that "credit unions remain the most tightly regulated and well-capitalized of all depositor institutions and provide the same level of deposit insurance as their bank and thrift counterparts."

Edward B. "Red" Burgess Memorial Scholarship
In honor of Edward B. "Red" Burgess, Green River Area Federal Credit Union awards to its members and/or their immediate family members two scholarships annually, one in September and one in January.
The scholarship consists of tuition costs for one semester for one person, or 1/2 of the tuition cost if two people should apply. One person may apply for two semesters, but second semester will be granted only if that person maintained a "C" average in the first semester. We would also like for the person receiving this scholarship to be a full time student, however should a full time student not apply we would consider a part time student.
If you are interested in applying, contact the financial aid office at Owensboro Community College for an application.
Red opened the first account in 1959 and dedicated many years of time and service to the Credit Union. As a founder of the Credit Union, Red worked hard to make sure members received the services and the financial assistance they needed. The scholarship was designed to serve as a lasting token of our thanks and appreciation for Red's service.
